A treatment plan is formulated by understanding the relationship between the structure of the body and how well it functions, and knowing the connections between all the tissues, fluids, organs and systems of the body.

Osteopathic practitioners study for years to develop very sensitive palpation skills. Many gentle tests and techniques are used to find and treat the root causes of dysfunction and not just chase the symptoms.

Johannes is an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner. He completed his five-year Degree in Osteopathy in 2012 at CEESO Lyon, a leading school of osteopathy in France. Before moving to Canada, he practiced at several osteopathic clinics in France. His special interest is in treating infants, pregnant and post-partum women, office workers, mountain athletes and musicians.

Johannes uses a range of techniques including gentle joint mobilization, muscle energy technique, visceral and cranial myofascial release, with the goal of releasing, realigning and balancing the body and its’ functions.

Johannes certified as a Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) practitioner in 2017 and was involved in the development of this therapeutic approach in France. DNS was developed by Dr. Pavel Kolar of the Prague School of Rehabilitation. It focuses on improving posture and movement patterns. The approach is based on recovering the optimal posture and movement patterns that are established in early childhood. These patterns can become compromised through life and work habits, trauma, athletic injuries and aging. The end-result can be long-lasting mechanical imbalances which can eventually end in acute pain. DNS addresses the origin of pain by helping to restore original movement patterns. This results in better posture and alignment, and more efficient movement.

Osteopathy and DNS are complementary approaches and can benefit patients across a range of ages and physical abilities, as the goal is to prevent the onset of pain and improve functional ability.

Johannes spends his free time in the mountains, running, rock climbing, ski touring, mountaineering, and is happy to call British Columbia home since 2016.

Annabel Mackenzie qualified as a Registered Shiatsu Therapist in 1990. She issues a Shiatsu Receipt (RST).

In 1994 she began her apprenticeship in Manual Therapy and Osteopathic techniques, earning her BI-Diplomate in 2013. This is the highest level of certification given by Jean Pierre Barral DO, Alain Croibier DO, and the Barral Institute.

In 2006 Annabel became the Canadian member of the International Barral Institute teaching team. She has translated eight osteopathic textbooks from the original French into English.

In Annabel’s experience patients rarely come for treatment at the first sign of a pain or mobility issue. The body has a great ability to withstand and recover and from such events as trauma, whiplash, and even surgery The progression of a problem can remain imperceptible as long as compensation is possible.

Patients commonly attribute an acute complaint to a recent event. However, once symptoms arise, evaluation is the most important part of treatment. The job of the therapist is to discover areas of greatest restriction, that are not always at the same location as the main complaint. An old ankle sprain can be the underlying cause of chronic hip pain. Headache or neck pain can be due to a fall long ago on the tailbone.

Annabel uses gentle specifically directed manual forces to relieve pain and restore resiliency. The musculoskeletal container, as well as the delicate intelligent contents (organs, circulatory and nervous systems) are both important in resolving problems and restoring vital health and mobility.
